Microsclerotherapy – Leg Spider Veins treatments
Microsclerotherapy is a painless, nonsurgical
procedure used to treat unsightly
but otherwise non-troublesome spider
veins on the legs.
The Sclerosant solution used during this
treatment displaces blood, ultimately
closing down the veins which are
then reabsorbed by the body. This not
only removes the unsightly veins, but
improves circulation to the area. Red
veins are often fed by bigger, less visible
Reticular/Feeder (blue) veins which
can be seen with our polarised light for
treatment accuracy.
Where it's for
Whilst Microsclerotherapy is generally
used for spider veins on the legs, there
are also occasions it can be used to treat
any unwanted veins on the hands or face.
Preliminary Consultation
A consultation and examination is
needed before a treatment session.
At this consultation, investigations will
be made using a Dopla device (used
to check the possibility of varicose
veins or incompetent valves). Referral
to a vascular surgeon will be made if
Varicose Veins are diagnosed as these
cannot be treated using this procedure.
What to expect
A small amount of sclerosant is
injected into the treated veins
using an extremely fine needle.
Microsclerotherapy treatments usually
take 30 minutes per session and a series
of treatments at 6-12 week intervals are
needed. Compression hosiery is supplied
after treatment and must be worn for 3
days, day and night, and during the day
for 4 further days.
